IDC PREPARATION

Preparation is the key to success. Preparing for a diving career is a considerable investment of time and commitment. The right preparation significantly reduces your IDC course load and allows you more time to assimilate and apply the information you learn. Please request our special document we have prepared which will guide you through all the necessary study, documentation and materials. Just send off this email if you are using an email program such as Outlook and we will email the document back to you by return or send an email to info@idc-inparadise.com if you are using web based email like Hotmail or Yahoo. It is still possible for you to finish your Knowledge Reviews when you arrive here, provided they are finished before we start the IDC but will be so much more beneficial if they are completed ahead of time.

IDC Instructor PreparationTo benefit the most from our program we encourage you to start your IDC Preparation already today:

Check that you meet the prerequisites to attend the IDC/IE:

Note: IDC Instructor prerequisites, formsA number of important PADI forms are downloadable in Adobe Acrobat .pdf Format. To read Adobe Acrobat files, download the free Adobe Reader Get Adobe Reader to download PADI Instructor forms):

  • Be certified as PADI Divemaster or hold a leadership level certification with another recreational diver training organization.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement for a diving medical examination conducted within the past 12 months from the last day of the IE. A licensed physician must sign the form and state that you are fit for diving. The physician signing the form may not be the applicant. ( PADI medical Statement Form recommended).
  • Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 open water scuba dives (100 logged dives to attend the IE, except as noted below), as documented in the individuals log book and have documentation of experience in deep, night and navigation diving.
  • Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months. (EFR Primary/Secondary Care is preferred.)
  • Submit documentation of any qualifying certification for entry-level, advanced, rescue and leadership-level issued by another recreational diver training organization.
  • If not a PADI Divemaster, complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment.

Note: special IE and CDC options Special IE option for PADI 5 Star CDC's:

  • Candidates enrolled in five pre-and/or post-IDC courses (Pre-study, EFRI, Specialties etc.) OR candidates of a six-week Career Development program who successfully complete a PADI IDC, conducted by the CDC, may attend a PADI IE if they have been certified divers for at least six months, have logged 60 dives and are certified PADI Assistant Instructors (the AI course is the first part of the IDC.
  • CDC candidates who successfully complete an IE and subsequently meet the 100-logged-dive certification requirement will be certified as PADI Instructors when their paperwork has been processed by PADI.
  • Please complete the Reservation Form. We will then reconfirm your reservation by e-mail within 48 hours.
  1. Check that you have documentation of ALL your certifications from Open Water to Divemaster or Assistant Instructor. If some of them are missing please contact PADI prior to the IDC and ask for a fax or e-mail confirming your certifications and PADI Number (if available). Some of you may have certifications from other organizations. Please bring them so we can provide PADI with a photocopy.
  2. Complete an Instructor Application Form and fax it to us.
  3. If you are planning on a diving career in Asia Pacific, please remember to transfer your PADI Membership to our local area office in Sydney, as soon as possible. This will save you valuable time when PADI processes your IDC Application. Please download the Member Transfer Request Form , complete it and send it to your current PADI office and the Asia Pacific office in Sydney. You will find the appropriate addresses and fax numbers on the form.
  4. Most visitors are granted a 21-days visitor visa upon arrival in the Philippines. If you plan to stay longer than 21 days we will recommend that you obtain a tourist visa via your local Philippine Embassy PRIOR to entering the Philippines. This will save you both time and money later. Please check with your travel agent or local Philippine Embassy if unsure.
  5. To start studying you should have at the very least your own personal copy of the PADI Instructor manual (paper or digital), Instructor Candidate Workbook, Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving (paper or digital), Diving Knowledge Workbook and Enriched Air Crew Pak. There are other PADI materials that you will need to reference when completing your knowledge reviews also. Our document on How to Prepare for the IDC fully explains what you need to have access to. As of 1 January 2006 you are required to have in your possession, a personal set of materials (as listed in our Pre IDC Check List) for study and use during the course and for reference afterward. (All PADI materials are available from us, at PADI Asia Pacific Member Prices).
  6. Please answer all 16 knowledge reviews in the Instructor Candidate Workbook (or Best of the Undersea Journal and Study Tools if using a European language version). This is a prerequisite to attend the IDC, AI course or OWSI program.
  7. Please complete the 2 knowledge reviews from the Enriched Air Specialty Manual.
  8. It is highly recommended that you purchase a PADI Diving Knowledge Workbook and answer all the questions. This is the absolute best way to prepare for the IE Dive Theory Exam.
  9. Make sure that all your equipment is complete and in good working order.
  10. Try to go out with an Instructor as his/her assistant as often as possible.
  11. RELAX! And look forward for an enjoyable and rewarding IDC as a well-prepared candidate.
