A Philippines vacation.

If you have never visited the Philippines you may be wondering why this is such a popular place.

No web site can ever show you all the reasons why but we can at least explain some of the more obvious reasons.

Think of sun drenched beaches, surrounded by palm trees and water where the temperature always lies between 25C and 27C. Swim or scuba dive in water where the normal visibility is 30 - 40 meters looking at more species of fish than in the entire Red Sea. More than this though, our El Galleon resort is in the middle of a fish reserve created by the government.

The El Galleon beach and dive resort was created more than twenty years ago to provide quiet luxury for families escaping the rat race. Here you can laze around our pool, go diving or do one of a myriad of different fun sports and pastimes.

Then at the end of the day you could chose to dine in our restaurant or walk up to the Point Bar and sip cocktails or down some beers looking straight over the Pacific.

No resort should ever try to capture guests and whilst we can offer great accommodation, great food and a bar renowned throughout Asia, why not take a five minute stroll along the beach into the small town of Sabang? There you will find a great variety of nightlife. Bars, discos, and restaurants serving just about every imaginable kind of food.

Asia Divers are part of our vacation resort. Whatever your skill level as a diver our dive operation can accommodate you. You may wish to simply dive in which case there are a wide variety of possible dive sites right on our doorstep.

Asia divers have won numerous awards from PADI and others for the quality of dive training given. We can instruct at all levels from Open Water certification right through to Divemaster. Indeed we are one of only two schools in the Philippines qualified to that level.

Remembering that we are a family resort we even have courses for children designed to introduce them gently into our sport. The 'Bubblemakers' course is suitable for 8 year olds and upwards, whilst the Open Water course is available at the age of ten and up.

We also provide a wide range of technical courses and differing gas mixes to dive with from air to Nitrox, Trimix and even re-breathers.

It is a matter of record that once someone has dived here they will return on average ten times.

You may spend a little longer in the air to get to the Philippines but your vacation spending money is likely to go a lot further given that the average wage here is in the order of $6 a day.

Some vacation advice for those visiting here for the first time.

Luggage.

The first thing to remember is that you can buy anything your heart desires here and usually cheaper than where you are at home. Sometimes a lot cheaper. Therefore experienced visitors tend to travel very light.

The standard uniform here is a T shirt and either shorts or jeans. That goes for both men and women.

In general terms, if you can't get it in your hand luggage, leave it at home. Not only will it make your travel easier but you won't need to wait around in the luggage hall whilst the entire luggage of a 747 gets unloaded. You will be among the first to arrive at the Immigration desk before the crowd and the same goes for your customs declaration.

If you just have hand luggage you will clear the airport well ahead of the herd and have no difficulty in getting a taxi.

Electricity.

The Philippines works on 100 Volt AC and these days all mobile phones, laptops etc will happily charge from that supply.

Water.

More vacations are spoiled worldwide by bad water causing diarrhea than any other cause.

Whilst the water is generally safe in resorts and hotels you would be unwise to drink it. Western tummies are very susceptible to things which certainly won't kill you, but can give you severe tummy ache. Bottled water is very common and very cheap, so use it and even clean your teeth with it, to be on the safe side. Never buy cooked food from street vendors, no matter how tasty it looks and only eat salads in a hotel or resort.

Immunization.

You would be well advised to check with your doctor before traveling anywhere in Asia.
