News from El Galleon Dive Resort & Asia Divers, Puerto Galera

Hello from Puerto Galera

Nice to see familiar faces back with us again, Arjan Kroon (The Candy Man) and John Robson.  Also, happy to have Pat and Jim Stayer from the U.S. here with us this week. They’ve been busy doing a lot of filming and enjoying the Puerto Galera and Anilao diving.

Sabine is back for the CNY holiday.

Were in the mood for love…

Valentine’s Day in the Philippines is a big deal and we made sure we were all decked out for the occasion. Our Special Valentines dinner was very popular for all the happy couples. Now the CYN holiday has just started and the resort is starting to get pretty full. We’ve got lots of folks from China as well as those who live in Asia coming here and taking advantage of this nicely timed holiday. From everyone here at El Gal and Asia Divers, we wish you all a happy, prosperous and healthy CNY!!02c4Looks like Andy had a very nice Valentines dinner with three lovely ladies!

Time to get wet!

I bet Every PADI Pro can remember their first dive. Albert Van Zuijlen and Gerard Kemmatook tried SCUBA for the first time with long time friend of Asia Divers Huub Keultjes. Asia Divers teaches PADI courses right from bubblemakers for the kids, all the way up to instructor level. We have a very talented and highly skilled instructor team here to teach you. Contact us at instructors@asiadivers.com if you need any information on diving courses.

Robert  Gilhooly was glad to do a refresher to get him submerged into diving again.

Beating the February Blues in Puerto Galera!

February in P.G. is much nicer than February in most parts of the planet and by all the smiles on peoples’ faces around here they all know it. We have a group from Germany who have been here for about a week now plus a lot of familiar faces such as Janne Bjork, Rene Sten, Per Engual, Huub Keultjes, Noboru Suzuki, Karwena Ng, Rebecca Lin, David Coller, Arjan Kroon all beating the February blues! Critters and Threshers…oh my!

What a fantastic week of critter finding it’s has been with the Critterfest Group from the USA. Mike Bartick from Crystal Blue brought the group over for a week of fun, but it was not just the critters that were around, they had a great sighting of a Thresher Shark and 4 awesome dives at Verde Island where the very elusive Coral Cat Shark was sighted.

It’s that time of year again where the water gets a little chilly and the Thresher’s come out to play. Over the past 5 years it has continued to get better and better for sighting Thresher Sharks here at Puerto Galera especially during the months from December to April when the water is a little cooler. On Saturday Jamie led a dive to Kilima where there is a cleaning station and saw 3 Threshers all at once wow! Malapascua eat your heart out!

Welcome back to the British International School, Ho Chi Minh

We have very fun and busy time here this past week with the group from the British International School, HCMC in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. This is the second year in a row that they have joined us and we sure hope to see them again next year. Eight of the group did their full Open Water courses, 9 did the four training dives and then a bunch of fun dives, and 2 got their EFR/Rescue. The whole gang worked very hard and should be very proud for what they have accomplished. They also had a great time visiting one of our local schools with some engaging activities to educate the children about the problem of marine debris and the importance of protecting the pristine marine environment. Thanks to Lauren Binnington for getting this all organized.
