Another long time tradition here is our Christmas Day under-water treasure hunt. Thanks to those who got up early on Christmas day to join us for a bit of a splash, hunting around for some Christmas prezzies…
With the sun shining brightly, everyone here has been having a fine time celebrating the season. Santa and his elves arrived at El Galleon on the 24rd and delivered heaps of toys to the local kids for the 26th year in a row! Christmas dinner at El Galleon was a delicious feast by Antoine and the crew, and now the kitchen is starting to get things rolling for the New Years dinner. Wishing everyone a very healthy, happy and prosperous New Year…and hope to see you here soon!
Congratulations to Roberto Guidici and Ferdinand Lopez (Ferdi) who completed their PADI Divemaster courses and celebrated the occasion Point style. Roberto worked real hard in the 12 days that he was here. He completed the eLearning ahead of time so he could spend lots of time in the water getting the most out of the whole experience. Congratulations!
It’s been a fun week here having Adrienne Ng and her group from Hong Kong back with us again. Despite a windy day of typhoon Nona, they were able to get in lots of diving, complete AOW and Nitox courses. We know it’s not the ideal holiday when you get some unexpected bad weather, but it sure makes things easier when you have a fun group like this that takes it all in stride with smiles on their faces. Congratulations to Long Long Ng, Edison Chan, Wing Yuen Lee (Ida), Man Hing Lee (Mandy), Joe Kwok Keung Lee, Joanne Leung, and Daniel Bristow for completing your Nitrox courses and to Daniel Bristow, Joe Kwok Keung Lee, Man Hing Lee, and Wing Yuen Lee (Ida) for earning your AOW. We hope to see you all back again real soon!
After 6 years we were thrilled to have Sha Tin College from Hong Kong back with us! it was a fantastic week for the group of 51 who took part in diving and activities in Puerto Galera. In the group we had 30 new Open Water divers, 4 Advanced divers and 4 Night Specialty Divers, while we had another group of kids doing activities such as sailing, and visits to Extreme Sports and the zip line. The whole gang also went on a sunset cruise to enjoy pizza at Talipanan, spent a day on Verde Island visiting a local school and having a beach BBQ and then we had a fun send-off on the platform with a cultural dance performance, fire dancers and a great rockin band!
Thank you to all of the teachers; Cliff Imeson , Brian Coulton, Katherine Turbett, Victoria Harvey who made the week such a success and especially to Alan Dickson for getting this all organized. Looking forward to seeing you back again in 2016! Please see the Sha Tin video produced by Rob: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=551470128341825

It’s been a fun-filled time with this wonderful group of 23 folks from Sweden. Most stayed for 8-9 nights, enjoying the sunny weather, cool stuff to see and great food at El Gal! Thanks to Henrik Jörnvall for organizing this and hoping to see you all back again. Congrats to Jakob Forestier, Ann Dahlberg, Stefan Lundeberg and Taina Ylonen for getting their nitrox certs and enjoying that extra bottom time.
Sune and Asa are thrilled to have done their 100th dive here in Puerto Galera. A bit warmer here than Sweden for sure!
This is second blog about interesting sea life that has been sent to us by SeaLifeBase. The is about “Ocean Giants: Lion’s Mane Jellyfish” Please see: http://sealifebaseproject.blogspot.com/2015/02/ocean-giants-lions-mane-jellyfish.html
You can become a SeaLifeBase collaborator
We get many photographers coming to Asia Divers who take some pretty amazing photos of the marine life in Puerto Galera, We encourage all of you to become a SeaLifeBase Collaborator. Please see below:
WHAT is a “SeaLifeBase collaborator,” and WHO can be one?
In a nutshell, SeaLifeBase collaborators are the people who help us by: a) sending or alerting us to references and photos, which we have not yet used; b) assembling data from published sources using a preformatted template; and/or c) verifying or correcting data that we have extracted and incorporated into the information system. Some of them are — but not limited to — biologists, taxonomists, scientists, and other experts. Some are aquarists, photographers, businessmen, and marine-life enthusiasts. Truly, we welcome contributions from anybody who has a passion for marine life.
