News from El Galleon Dive Resort & Asia Divers, Puerto Galera

Alli and Tommy at DEMA

Tommy and Alli went to the DEMA show in Orlando recently. It’s the world’s only international trade-only event for the diving industry. It was a great opportunity to do meet up with all of our wholesalers in the U.S. do some business, learn a few new things, and to see some friends of course.  Thanks to two of our 25th Anniversary photo competition winners for coming out to visit us at DEMA, Alex Suh and Beth Watson.

Wolfgang’s 700th!

We’re thrilled that Wolfgang Krueger specifically came down this weekend to do his 700th dive with us…and what a dive it was. He spent it on Verde Island and the frogfish came out to play!

Wolfgang’s first dive with Asia Divers was 28 September 2002 to Shark Cave and it was only his 21st dive altogether in his dive career. He’s come a long way since then, and thankfully, a lot of it was with us! To date he’s now got 263 dives in PG, including some Milestone/new t-shirt dives in which were celebrated at the Point in fine style including numbers 50, 200, 300, 500, 600 and 700. Wolfgang has also joined some of our overseas live-aboard trips which included 23 dives in Cocos Island in April 2012, 29 dives in Komodo and Sumbawa for a total of 315 dives with us. His most memorable dive was a bit difficult to choose as he’s had many memorable dives but one of his favorite sites is Oodies because he’s never encountered another group of divers there and it’s a bit difficult to find for most people. Thanks for your support over the years and we look forward to many more dives with you!

The “Movember” typhoon Relief

Last year Asia Divers launched “Movember” with Pete, Jamie Troy, Brad, Mazi sporting bushy staches to raise awareness and some money for men’s health. This Movember the guys have started to sprout for awareness yet again, but are combining the awareness with raising money for the Malapascua typhoon relief. A few nights ago the guys decided that “Mohawks” might be a good way to introduce the “Mo-ness” of “Movember” and to raise some money for Malapascua. The guys got their Mohawks and raised almost p20,000 in one night up in the bar! If you would like to donate to this cause please email Alli at instructors@asiadivers.com. We’ll keep you up to date on where your money is going.

MS and Me documentory

Stephanie Scawen has been diving with Asia Divers for many years and also did her instructor course with us.  Steph, Al Jazeera’s South East Asia correspondent came here with the production team in early June to film part of ‘MS and Me” and it’s now on air. It a beautiful, honest, strong and touching doco which shines a new light on what it’s like living with MS for sufferers and their families. Definitely worth watching!

If you can’t see it on TV you watch it here through this link:

Andy on the go…again!

Only 3 days after completing a Cressi-Sub service seminar in Asia Divers with newly qualified instructors, Andy Norman headed south to the Island of Cebu to conduct courses for dive shop operators and their staff in both Cebu City and Moalboal.

The initial request for this course was from the Lee Butler of Savedra Dive Centre in Moalboal who wished for his staff to be trained on servicing regulators.

So to make the course more open, Lee put the advertisement around the beaches and surprised us with another 4 resorts wanting to add their staff for the one day training course.

The result of the advertisement was 11 students from 5 different shops in Moalboal and 7 students from 6 different resorts in Cebu that took the course so was great news and good fun to conduct the seminar for so many dive shops..

Once again the regulators being used was the Cressi-sub AC2 unbalanced, the XS 2 2nd stage, the Diaphragm MC5 and Cressi’s Ellipse 2nd stage.

Congratulations go to the following:
