From Weddings to Blackwater Diving – El Galleon Dive Resort has you covered!

What a wonderful few days it’s been for a very special wedding celebration for very dear friends of ours. Larry and Kris Bird and many of their family and friends from all over the world were here to spend time and celebrate the occasion with them. It was indeed a day to remember for all!

The night started in the Point for Happy hour with everyone getting together with the bride and groom before dinner. The evening continued on with an amazing Indian Buffet meal along with listson (roasted pig), some good heartwarming speeches and toasts to the newlyweds.

Amy Ward made the most beautifully decorated cake with such fine detailed eatable flowers that it was almost a shame to eat it…but we sure did. Kris and Larry pulled out a good “bolo” knife to do the deed.

OH, and did we mention that it rained a bit that night?!

They say that a rainy wedding is good luck for the bride and groom…well, I think they best run out and buy a lottery ticket with all the rain we had! Wishing the newlyweds much love and happiness from everyone here at El Galleon, Asia Divers and Tech Asia!

What else has been happening at Asia Divers & El Galleon Dive Resort?

Ruben, and our long time friends Mal Howarth and Ron Jackson, joined by first timers to PG, Marilei Kuns and Andre Aguillar are all excited about getting wet today and seeing some cool stuff.

The perfect location for doing a Nitrox course is of course…. The Point Bar! Richard Fernie and Christian Drew are now ready to go on nitrox.

Tim, Daniel, Jaydon and Tobin were only here for three days but determined to get their PADI Advanced cert and get in some great dive experiences. Mission accomplished!

DRT Show & Charity Raffle Winners!

It was a busy weekend at the DRT show in Manila for the gang from Ocean Dive Supply and Tech Asia. The show was visited by many people looking to check out and purchase new dive gear and to see what’s new in the Philippine diving industry.

And the Lucky winner of the Tech Asia charity raffle is…Joan Jomai Mamangun Zerrudo!

Never saw a couple so happy to have won something (and for the money to have gone to such a good cause). Halcyon and Tech Asia put up a unique Limited Edition Titanium Infinity BCD System as a special prize.

All proceeds will go to Pasay Pups, which is a volunteer organization dedicated to caring for the animals, and the children living in poverty in the Sarhento Mariano public cemetery in Pasay City.

What has been happening at Asia Divers?

Shanghai American School at Asia Divers

Have a look at this very nice video from the Shanghai American School who we’re with us last March. We’re excited that they’ll be joining us again next march as well. Bring your school group to Puerto Galera for a Fun, Educational and Exciting Adventure. The world is your classroom! Learning can, and should happen everywhere. We have over 23 years of experience with hosting school groups!

Our professionalism and enthusiasm with these groups has made us a leader in this area. Programs include diving, sailing, activities, community service and sightseeing. We’re already looking forward to their next visit in March 2020!

PADI E-IDC update

Our scooter gang assembled for a fun dive along reefs and wrecks. Matt did his DPV Specialty Instructor Training with Sabine – so he can teach this fun course, while for Cody it was his very first time scootering about. Big smiles as he enjoyed it a lot!!

With many ‘Matt’s around, one could get confused B) – Our “Tall Matt’, Matt Hutchinson, has started his IDC with us and in the meantime already completed his EFR Instructor rating in the first 2 days. Congratulations! He can now teach the EFR Primary, Secondary, Care for Children and AED & CPR courses. More IDC updates to come…

Mindoro Sprinter, the new 22 seater Navicat, Private Resorts and Boat Taxi service is now operational.

It’s the fastest and most comfortable way to get to (and from) Puerto Galera, and directly to El Galleon/Asia Divers. Our new and easily accessible pick up point at Ilaya, is right next door to Batangas Port. And dis-embark at our pier.

What’s been happening at Asia Divers & El Galleon Dive Resort

Happy birthday to Leon, so nice that you and Carole can spend another one here with us!

It was great to have Ian and Jack Jones diving with us. Jack completed his Open Water course with us a few months ago and he had not forgotten a thing. It was like riding a bike, he was right back at it again! Three big turtles, a couple of big puffers and an amazing very fishy drift dive made the weekend…

Discover Scuba by day…jamming in the Point by night! Maria Khristina Tome and Mark Donahue had a great experience trying out scuba diving with Maria and then joining in a fun evening at the Point Bar.

First time at the Point Bar… “Sudden” gig/acoustic session and it was a success! Watch out… this might become a regular thing! Thank you so much to our guests, Tin (vocalist) and her partner Mark for making this happen, to Odie for the music, to all the jammers, El Galleon family and awesome crowd!

A chip off the old block! Very nice to see Ruben teaching his 16 year old daughter Andrea to dive along with her support team Ruby Ann and, Issa to cheer her on.

Jana and Glenn Everett have been keeping themselves busy this weekend with their PADI EFR and Rescue course with Sabine. Both are enjoying the learning and the fun of it along with a few bumps here and there on the egress!

The Mindoro Sprinter is making waves!

It’s been a busy few days for the Mindoro Sprinter as she is starting to get her sea legs. Follow us on our Facebook page ‘Mindoro Sprinter” to see our schedule, or contact us at 0927 631 7243 for information and bookings. Now you can get to El Galleon on the most comfortable and safest boat traveling from Batangas to Puerto Galera.

Boat Fee is 800 peso one way, per person. Cash only.
There is a P100 port fee to pay from Ilaya which will be collected there. There is no port fee departing from El Galleon. All vehicles going to Ilaya will be charged a P50 entrance fee to enter the port.
There is a P50 port fee to pay from Lamao which will be collected there. There is no port fee departing from El Galleon.
You must be at departure point 30 minutes prior to departure.

What’s been happening at Asia Divers & El Galleon Dive Resort

It’s hard to believe that this little cutie is now one year old! Happy Birthday to River… parents, Arthur, Meena and Grandpa Allan enjoyed this special day with her. It was so much fun to have many friends and family from here and Manila to be for the celebrations over the past weekend.

It’s always nice to have Steve Gershon and Paul Bronson back with us. Congratulations to Paul Bronston for completing his PADI Advanced Open Water course.

Nice to have good friends of CY and Bonny doing their dive training with us. Yanghui Xie (Running), Guoran Yao (Iris) and Yao Geng DSD (Fifteen) are all enjoying learning to scuba dive and looking forward to their ocean dives and seeing some of the amazing marine life that PG has to offer.

Thanks to our dear friends from “DDT” Discovery Divers Tokyo for recommending us to Christopher Greenway. Chris had a great week of diving and also completed PADI Enriched Air, Drift and DPV specialty courses while he was here. Congrats Chis, and enjoy your new Polo shirts that came with the courses!

While Phil Rudin was here conducting a photo workshop last month he managed to go out on just one backwater dive….and what a dive it was!! Here are just a couple of the photos he took in the Verde Island Passage in front of El Galleon Resort /Asia Divers.

He was using: Sony A7R III, 90 macro, two Inon Z-330 strobes, Nauticam housing. ISO-200, F/13, 1/250th sec.

What’s been happening at El Galleon Dive Resort & Asia Divers

Allan is just waiting in anticipation for our new boat to be ready to go… were very close now. Checkout our new Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Mindoro-Sprinter-100292734654073/.

Four instructors joined in fun to get Jordan and David through their PADI Open Water course. Not that they need all of us…we just wanted to make their last dive something pretty special. A beautiful turtle decided to pose with us just to add icing to the cake. Thanks so much to Alan Dickson for always thinking of us and convincing the guys to do their dive training here at Asia Divers.

Family diving is super fun! It’s always great to have the whole Lu/Lo family back here with us. We’ve seen the kids grow up right before our eyes and of course seen the parents stay young forever! Welcome back to CY, Bonny, Tim and Mary!

It was a special week Mary to be able to do her Bubblemaker pool session and three follow-up dives in the ocean. She actually breezed through all the confined water skills from the Open Water course, just doing them for fun, and once she got in the ocean she had perfect buoyancy control…..all in two meters. The first steps of many more dives to come!

Super excited and we look forward to bringing our guests to El Galleon and Asia Divers very soon on this boat. We’ll keep you all posted when it’s up and running, but we’re looking at some quicker crossings to Batangas now.

The sun is out and so are we! What a fantastic way to start the day…a nice cruise into the Canyons with just enough current to bring out the big fish, but not so much that you’re blasting through your air and your time. To top it all off we had a nice encounter with 4 very large bump head parrot fishes… with Robin, Gabi and Meinrad.

PADI Women Dive Day 2019

Thanks to everyone who came out to “Splash for Trash” to celebrate PADI Women’s Dive Day. We conducted a Dive Against Debris and some of us even got dressed up for the occasion. 28 kg recovered…and lots of fun!!

What’s been going on at El Galleon Dive Resort & Asia Divers

Alli and Elly and Dave spent last week in Beijing at the ADEX Beijing Ocean Fiesta with the Philippines Department of Tourism Booth representing Asia Divers/EL Galleon and Tech Asia. We we’re excited to let the Beijing diving community learn more about what we have to offer.

Long time family friends of Tommy, Daira Lovstrom and Freja Lovstrom came here to get certified. Both Ruben and Arthur jumped in and made it a fun course for everyone.

Jason got all “trashy” as he completed the PADI Dive Against Debris specialty on the PADI Women’s dive Day clean up dive.

OSM Ship Management PTE Ltd, Philippines, returns to El Galleon & Asia Divers!

During the weekend of 19th to 21st July, some of our regular guests from OSM Ship Management PTE Ltd, Philippines – Adrien and his colleague, Jerumel, returned to Asia Divers, for a packed weekend of fun-dives, overseen by Instructor Matt and Divemaster Cody.

During the weekend, they packed in dives across some of our most popular dive-sites, including Monkey Beach, Coral Cove, Giant Clams and Sinandigan! In addition, they also joined Asia Diver’s “Dive Against Debris” in Sabang Bay, in celebration of PADI Women’s Day. Matt and Cody also managed to squeeze in an exciting night-dive with Sabine to Alma Jane wreck.

Adrien’s daughter, Lara, also joined the weekend and completed a Discover Scuba Diving experience with Matt and Cody. Great job Lara! We hope to see you again very soon in Puerto Galera!

Scootering through the DPV Specialty Instructor Course

Boys and Toys… Sebastien had lots of fun scootering around our reefs and we actually found some amazing critters on the way… 3 very large stone fishes mating, a huge green turtle with yellow remoras attached, and at our safety stop we were joined by not one but two cockatoo wasp fishes. What an epic dive to conclude all his specialties.

Recent Happenings at Asia Divers

Well done Jon Woodhead, who had a great time doing his PADI Advanced Open Water course care of Pete and Kelly Walsh. Jon decided on Wreck, Naturalist and Night for his elective dives and also managed a dive with his Mum Sally and partner Pete during the Naturalist dive. Pete’s wish was to see a sea horse and we didn’t let him down. Awesome!

Ashley Weier and Donald Ferguson had good mate Arthur Nash to take them through the Discover Scuba Diving experience and they both loved it. Art took them through the quick pool session, then out for a dive at Wreck point. We got a feeling they’re going to be back for their course sometime.

E-IDC update

Who’s been doing what at Asia Divers?

Congratulations to Jessica Loder who has become the 4th diver in the family. Arthur took her under his wing and now they are both super happy. Jessica is very excited about all the great things she is seeing and looks forward to diving with her family.

Congratulation to Leo Church for earning his PADI Open Water with Ruben. Leo’s dad, John came here many years ago and did his OW course here as well. Nice to have another “Asia Divers” diver in the family!

Welcome back ‘H”!

It’s been great to have Heneage “H”, Peter and Philip Mitchell with us this past. “H” is a long time friend of ours and we were thrilled that he was able to come here with the boys to get them certified. Both Peter and Philip worked hard and did really well on their PADI Open Water course with Maria. A big congratulations you guys! It was also great that Snake was here to be part of the fun!

It was quite the night in the Point as Rene celebrated his 60th birthday. Food, booze, family and friends…what more can you ask for! Thanks Rene for hosting such a fun night and to Leah and Jamie for preparing the food.

Peter decided that he wanted to keep submerged and do his PADI Advanced course. Now he leaves here with another certification and quite chuffed that his ears are being cooperative!

Diver, diver, are you OK? Paul and Peter are back and they just finished their Rescue and EFR training with Maria. The course was challenging and rewarding, plus so much fun! Congratulations!

E-IDC update – Team “Cubicus” in action

The June/July IDC has started and the team found a name already. “Cubicus” refers to the species of cute little Boxfishes that we all love to see underwater. Of course the name needed to be celebrated in the Point Bar.

What’s been happening at Asia Divers?

Everyone achieved their goal during this trip to Asia Divers – Carole: 5000 dives, Leon: 4100 dives, Philip: 2200 dives, Stephanie: 1900 dives…That’s a total of 13200 dives between the four of them and a lot of it done here!! It’s always great to have these guys diving with us. They all have so much experience and such great eyes to spot some pretty amazing stuff.

Congratulations to Kevin Shipley and Jaydon Beal who both did their OW referral dives to get their PADI Open Water certification and Kevin again went on to do his Advanced Open water course. When it came time to do the night dive, Jaydon, Dad John and friend Andrew Leutheuser did their Adventures in diving night diving so they could all go together. Awesome!

Steve Simpson got a bit bored hanging out and not diving, so he’d decided do a PADI Discover Scuba experience. He did better than he thought he would. I think we got him hooked. Good Job Steve!

Alli in Grand Turk scouting out a new wreck. She is wondering if she can put it in a big balikbayan box to send it back here…
