DRT Show & Charity Raffle Winners!

It was a busy weekend at the DRT show in Manila for the gang from Ocean Dive Supply and Tech Asia. The show was visited by many people looking to check out and purchase new dive gear and to see what’s new in the Philippine diving industry.

And the Lucky winner of the Tech Asia charity raffle is…Joan Jomai Mamangun Zerrudo!

Never saw a couple so happy to have won something (and for the money to have gone to such a good cause). Halcyon and Tech Asia put up a unique Limited Edition Titanium Infinity BCD System as a special prize.

All proceeds will go to Pasay Pups, which is a volunteer organization dedicated to caring for the animals, and the children living in poverty in the Sarhento Mariano public cemetery in Pasay City.

What has been happening at Asia Divers?

Shanghai American School at Asia Divers

Have a look at this very nice video from the Shanghai American School who we’re with us last March. We’re excited that they’ll be joining us again next march as well. Bring your school group to Puerto Galera for a Fun, Educational and Exciting Adventure. The world is your classroom! Learning can, and should happen everywhere. We have over 23 years of experience with hosting school groups!

Our professionalism and enthusiasm with these groups has made us a leader in this area. Programs include diving, sailing, activities, community service and sightseeing. We’re already looking forward to their next visit in March 2020!

PADI E-IDC update

Our scooter gang assembled for a fun dive along reefs and wrecks. Matt did his DPV Specialty Instructor Training with Sabine – so he can teach this fun course, while for Cody it was his very first time scootering about. Big smiles as he enjoyed it a lot!!

With many ‘Matt’s around, one could get confused B) – Our “Tall Matt’, Matt Hutchinson, has started his IDC with us and in the meantime already completed his EFR Instructor rating in the first 2 days. Congratulations! He can now teach the EFR Primary, Secondary, Care for Children and AED & CPR courses. More IDC updates to come…

What’s been happening at Asia Divers?

It was very kind of Brant and Sandra to treat us all to a yummy Pizza lunch at El Galleon. Thank you so much! Enjoy your trip to Tubbataha and looking forward to seeing you back here again.

We had such a fun time with the group from Scuba Monster. Their highlight of the week was a three dive day trip to Verde Island with a beach BBQ, plus to top it off a BCD party in the middle of the Verde Island Passage on the way back! With: Alex Cheung Pokkin, Chang Su Ying, Chi Yin Ho, Chung Yan Wong, Eric Lo Siu Ming, Hung Shut Kwan, Kwan Chee Cheung, Kwan Shuk Yi, Ming Lam Chi, Mo Tik Ki, Tam Kit Fung.

It’s been great to have Krystal Puxley from Adelaide Scuba here with us. She has been working in Manila and happily extended her time in the Philippines with us. There are not too many people in the world who travel with a dinosaur and can manage to do the “Stairway to Hell” with Jack Daniels and Coke only! Looking forward to seeing you back again…

We like to tell folks how long we’ve been around, but perhaps this will explain a lot!

My scooter is bigger than your scooter! Congratulations to John Stratford on completing his PADI DPV course. John was here for five months last year doing a Divemaster Internship with us, but this time he is only back for a quick three week school break. It’s been wonderful to have John back helping out in the dive shop and in the resort.

John’s other duty has also been to take his dad out diving this week. Great to see Matt Stratford back here!

What’s been happening at Asia Divers this week?

Congratulations to Alan Lo who completed his PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water this week. Seeing him in the water you can tell how comfortable he is already!

Charolotte and Zaid did a refresher when they first arrived to get back into the diving swing and sure enough it got them all excited to continue on with doing the PADI Advanced Open Water course.

Paul Stripp and Paul Mounsey had a blast on their Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) course with Jamie.

E-IDC update

PADI Instructors learning Freediving…

PADI Instructor Magnus Peterson and his daughter Veronica teamed up to explore the underwater world on one breath with the PADI Freediver Course. And in short amount of time they doubled and tripled their initial breath hold to an astonishing 3:07 and 2:13 min static. In the open water both went beyond the required 10m depth easily on second dive and practiced rescue scenarios specific to freediving.

Roberto Giudici had a fun time here this past week dividing his time between Tech Asia and Asia Divers. With his technical and DPV training he is super ready for his next stop… Chuuk.

Asia Divers at DEMA 2018

Allan, Tommy, Alli and Rhuby will be at the DEMA Show November 14-17 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall.

We’ll be with the Philippine Department of Tourism booth #2425 introducing folks to Asia Divers/El Galleon. Please drop by for a visit if you’re attending.

Scuba Diver News

We’re very excited to welcome three new mermaids into scuba diving. Sarah Fenwick and two sisters, 13 year old Katie and 14 year old Ella Callahan completed their PADI Open Water course with Elly. They worked really hard to achieve this goal and even went through a bit of a tough logistics day because of some bad weather…but they did it, and should all be very proud! Congratulations ladies!

Congratulations Jobert Tapia (Cody) on your Rescue Diver Certification (with EFR Primary and Secondary care with AED! Now, on to your Divemaster! It was a fun course with Arthur Nash who is almost done as well.

This was a great example of team teaching here as Matt did the EFR courses for both Arthur and Cody and Pete and Matt both got involved with the Rescue course. Matt is now an Assistant instructor and very soon will be an Instructor, so he got some great experience in team teaching with Pete.

Very nice to have the Lalani family here with us this weekend! Ruben and Elliot introduced them to diving through a PADI Discover Scuba program. Mahmud, Temina and Kiran thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I suspect they’ll be back for more.

Way to go Sarah Fenwick!! She completed Open Water and Advanced OW this week and now on to her next great adventure to meet up with mom and dad in El Nido.

Wonderful to have Richard Hughes back again and this time bringing his mom Jacqueline. Richard kept Jackie very busy with finishing off her PADI Advanced course and also doing a Nitrox course. Then they brought out the “big boys’ and got Jackie certified as a DPV diver by Pete. Congrats Jackie!

This month’s cover shot for Asia Diver “Monday News” newsletter is a photo of The Point Bar. The Point Bar is a great place to wind down with good friends, great ambiance and perhaps a cocktail or two at the end of your diving day.
