Riding around Mindoro

Allan and Tommy together with Tommy’s son Leary decide to check out how the rest of the province looks like after all the bad weather in the past month.
Of course most have been cleaned up but it sounds like good excuse to get out a day on the bikes.

Allan started in Puerto Galera and after an hour ride to Calapan he picked up Tommy and Leary to head down south to the first highlight on the trip, the curvy road between Victoria and Socorro passing the Naujjan Lake, a real treat for bikers. Next highlight on the trip was the Francis Coronel road that by-pass Roxas up in a hilly area with wonderful view in towards the center of Mindoro island. Equally good and winding road with good surface so the boys had a lot of fun.

As none of them really had explored Roxas town center before they decide to check it out and found a nice little restaurant, Red Tomato that served nice meals, not the last time they will visit there.

As they had so much fun on the by-pass road they decide to go back the same way as they came even though it is an extra 20km. They split in Calapan as Allan was heading back to Puerto Galera with Tommy and Leary to follow following day. The return trip is around 400km from Puerto Galera to Roxas that gives it a good day out on the bikes.

Riding around Mindoro is a fun way to spend the day so if you’re looking for something “off the beach” to do you can consider this.

From Weddings to Blackwater Diving – El Galleon Dive Resort has you covered!

What a wonderful few days it’s been for a very special wedding celebration for very dear friends of ours. Larry and Kris Bird and many of their family and friends from all over the world were here to spend time and celebrate the occasion with them. It was indeed a day to remember for all!

The night started in the Point for Happy hour with everyone getting together with the bride and groom before dinner. The evening continued on with an amazing Indian Buffet meal along with listson (roasted pig), some good heartwarming speeches and toasts to the newlyweds.

Amy Ward made the most beautifully decorated cake with such fine detailed eatable flowers that it was almost a shame to eat it…but we sure did. Kris and Larry pulled out a good “bolo” knife to do the deed.

OH, and did we mention that it rained a bit that night?!

They say that a rainy wedding is good luck for the bride and groom…well, I think they best run out and buy a lottery ticket with all the rain we had! Wishing the newlyweds much love and happiness from everyone here at El Galleon, Asia Divers and Tech Asia!

Ruben, and our long time friends Mal Howarth and Ron Jackson, joined by first timers to PG, Marilei Kuns and Andre Aguillar are all excited about getting wet today and seeing some cool stuff.

The perfect location for doing a Nitrox course is of course…. The Point Bar! Richard Fernie and Christian Drew are now ready to go on nitrox.

Tim, Daniel, Jaydon and Tobin were only here for three days but determined to get their PADI Advanced cert and get in some great dive experiences. Mission accomplished!

What’s been happening at El Galleon Dive Resort & Asia Divers

It was wonderful to have Graham Willis from Frog Dive, Sydney back with us again. This time he brought along Warren Andrews and Matthew Kempton to let them see what all the fuss is about in Puerto Galera.

After a three week trip with lots of great adventures in the UK, Matt and Cody are happy to have a holiday from their holiday…

Zhaolong Hu from Nanjing China is super excited to get “wrecked” on Alma Jane.

Dive site of the week: Manila Channel

Manila Channel is a great place to dive. The bottom of the channel is a covered with rocks and features small marine life. It can be lots of fun for searching for some wonderful macro creatures. Photographers love this area for the unique nudis and critters. On the right side of the channel lies a sloping reef with a mini-wall with beautiful gorgonians, sea fans, whip corals, and barrel sponges. There is also a small wreck which quite often will have a frogfish or two living on it. Keep an eye out, one time we saw 5 eagle rays passing through. You can see more of our dives sites here.

What’s been happening at Asia Divers

Congratulations to Jared and Yan Feng who came here with a mission and left super satisfied with their PADI Open Water certification with Pete and Kelly.

Kelly has been getting some great experience team teaching with Pete. As part of our IDC course at Asia Divers we welcome our new instructors to spend a month with us on an internship, gaining lots of real life experience team teaching and becoming part of our dive center.

Wonderful to have Ding Ho at El Galleon with his group of Taiwanese Dive Agents and Media Fam Tour – Dinner on 12 Feb. We quite often get to meet up in other countries at the various dive shows, but rarely in the Philippines.

Valentine’s Day in paradise

valentines asia divers puerto galera — “Lovey” decorations in El Galleon…it’s always fun to read the truly meaningful messages! Our restaurant was quite busy that night with many couples enjoying our special Valentine’s Day dinner.

Always nice to see friends when you’re travelling! Hello Cathy-Ann Reinink who was heading to Chile for some new adventures and Habitat for Humanity build.

Sand storms broken pannier, pitted and scratched video and helmet dusty then wet with rain we ended up in Ushuaia the end of the world!

E-IDC update

Instructor Internship – Kelly certified his first student…

Happy smiles of Yan Feng – Kelly’s first Open Water Diver student certified. Well done Yan Feng and Kelly!

Kelly is off to an excellent start as an instructor and has been co-teaching courses with several instructors here, now taking on more and more tasks.

Congratulations to Jamie for becoming a PADI Freediver

Jamie successfully finished his course to become a PADI Freediver and with that he is on his way to continue training and practice with the target of getting to the instructor level as well.

Jamie is super excited to jump into the PADI Freediving courses in style!

He practiced holding his breath in the pool from childhood on and is very good at it… but really??? No coffee in the morning before apnea???!! Kawawa!
